In this course, you will learn about effective communication practices that can be used to promote collaboration with professionals and families in early care and education, and intervention settings.

Course objectives
At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe effective practices for communicating with professionals and families in the context of early education and intervention; and
  • Use a decision-making process to select communication practices linked to specific purposes including attending and active listening, seeking and verifying, and supporting and joining.

This course aligns with the following 2014 DEC Recommended Practice:

  • TC3. Practitioners use communication and group facilitation strategies to enhance team functioning and interpersonal relationships with and among team members.

​This is a 2.5-hour course worth .25 CEUs. CEUs are approved by the Friday Center for Continuing Education at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. This course has also been approved for early childhood state training hours in the following states: Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Utah. Early intervention credits (i.e., 2 credits) have also been approved by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.
