In verbal modeling, an adult uses language to demonstrate how to say or do something (e.g., as part of a word game with an infant, a parent looks at an object, then at the child and says, “cup”). In nonverbal modeling, an adult uses physical movements, signs, or gestures to demonstrate how to say or do something (e.g., during a rhyming activity, a teacher demonstrates how to find two picture cards that show the words log and dog).
