Welcome to the module on tiered instruction developed by CONNECT. This module will introduce you to tiered instruction, also known as Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS). The module describes how a tiered approach can be used to enhance learning and development in young children enrolled in early childhood centers and programs. The module resources (activities, video clips, handouts) address practices related to both social-emotional development and academic learning that can be used either independently or together. The module is designed to help you gain a better understanding of how tiered instruction works in early childhood programs. However, before you can implement this approach, a number of program decisions will need to be made such as selecting appropriate assessment tools and specific interventions, and you will need additional professional development to show you how to use these assessments and interventions as part of tiered instruction.
