In addition to the best available research, you can turn to policies such as federal legislation, regulations, the DEC Recommended Practices, position statements, or program and personnel standards to receive additional guidance on tiered instruction. A policy serves as the foundation for a course of action to be taken at the federal, state, or local level. This module summarizes policy information from guidance offered by the Office of Special Education Programs focused on pre-k, and provisions within the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and a position statement of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). These last two focus primarily on the use of tiered instruction with older students in grades K-12.
