Laws and Regulations

For this module on assistive technology, information on laws and regulations is drawn from two sources: the Head Start Performance Standards and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

The Head Start Performance Standards include a standard for Services for Children with Disabilities (45CFR 1302.31d). Within this standard is a subpart focused on developing a disabilities service plan for children who need one. The Services for Children with Disabilities standard includes policies to ensure that children with disabilities receive all the services to which they are entitled.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) provides broad supports related to serving children with disabilities and their families. IDEA addresses the right of a child with disabilities to be provided with any AT devices and services needed to ensure that the child is successful.
